PatO'Brien DVD
Pat O’Brien, the putting coach for 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson and Ryder
Cup team member Vaughn Taylor, has introduced his first
instructional DVD that offers smart, practical and proven fundamentals based on
lessons learned from superior putters and their
performance in the Majors and other challenging and critical putting conditions.
Pat’s first instructional DVD is a comprehensive, concise and compelling presentation
of his four putting fundamentals: grip, posture,
stance and alignment.
The lessons and teaching philosophy are based on Pat’s study of Payne Stewart and
his record-breaking performance, including the US
Open championship in 1999. They also reflect his teaching experience with Masters
Champion, Ryder Cup team member and Nationwide
Tour putting record holder Zach Johnson and fellow Ryder Cup team member and perennial
PGA Tour putting statistics leader
Vaughn Taylor.
Pat is very excited to share his proven and simple putting fundamentals in this
new instruction DVD. What’s particularly impressive
is how the DVD comes across as a personal one-on-one private lesson with Pat. His
friends and students who have seen it love
how easy it is to learn from this presentation, and practice its lessons regularly
and consistently to improve all aspects
of their putting performance.

What You Can Expect? April 2011
As I stated on the homepage, my mission is to help you find a neutral, stable yet
mobile setup position. I also want to present to you my version of the fundamentals
like grip, posture, ball position and alignment. I want to explain to you why I
advocate a certain putting grip. I want to explain how you can have leverage over
the instrument you are holding. The information I will present is based on biomechanics
as well as common sense.

To that end, you will have access to pictures, text and what I hope to be the most
extensive video collection of putting, the short game and full swing anywhere. You
will see videos of some of the best players in the world with whom I have the privilege
to work.I will show you the good as well as
the bad- even Tour players get off at times. You will see the most efficient way
to correct things.
I will constantly be adding content, and I am open to suggestions of what you would
like to see. I am presenting the videos as short segments,
a la carte style, with a twist. I am shooting most of the videos without sound;
I will voice over key points as you view the images. I believe this is a better
way to learn as I can be economical with my words and you can focus more on what
you are seeing. I will also have the ability to pause, replay, draw reference lines
and type text.
Thank you for joining me and I am excited for your improvement!

What is Neutral? May 2011
Those who come into contact with me would probably tell you that if “allow” is my
favorite word when teaching, then “neutral” is a close second.
I believe that your foundation is your most important asset in your golf swing and
putting stroke. If you do not have a neutral setup, then you cannot
have a truly free motion. There is only one setup position in which you are truly
neutral, and through the pictures seen here and the content inside,
I will help you discover how to achieve it.

When you place your hands in a prayer position, you are centered and calm.
You can even close your eyes and feel the calmness. From there,
you simply lower your hands and fall from your hip joints while you maintain the
weight in the center of your feet. This is neutral; your body is relaxed
and free to move. With a putter, hold it out in front of you and then allow it to
drop as you gradually fall into your setup. Notice how easy it is to make a
smooth stroke.

Why don’t most people ever find this setup? Well, perhaps they have been
told to get their eyes over the ball when they putt. Maybe their
bodies are out of alignment through years of swinging with force in only one direction.
Or they have read that they need to hold the grip in their palms
or lifelines, which can introduce unnecessary tension and open forearms. Regardless,
come join me and let’s work together to get you into a setup
that will let your swing and stroke flow more freely and also save you from injury
down the road.
